The Word Nerd
aka Linguaphile or Logophile
I've loved words since my first spelling test, and writing since my first published poem in 3rd grade. In high school, I was an English nerd who LOVED writing papers, and my friends always asked for my help and advice writing theirs. My first shot at marketing was in my FCCLA club. I was in charge of promoting events throughout the school year, and I enjoyed every poster and flyer I made. When it came to choosing a career, I found Copywriter through one of those career assessment tests (it also said I should have been a judge; still glad I choose this!).
I started my freelance career on a whim. I was working for a warehousing company as their Office Manager and wanted to put my degree from Drake to work (Go Bulldogs! SMJC alumna, thank you very much). So, I put out a Craigslist ad in my town and surrounding states. Not only did I get TWO clients, but both their checks cleared! I knew this was what I wanted to do because it felt so natural and I loved knowing I'd really helped my clients with their businesses.
Over the years I've honed my craft by attending conferences, luncheons, and webinars to keep up-to-date on the latest in marketing. And I continue to do so. In fact, my 2016 car show fundraising event won a 2017 Clarion Award for Special Events. I've also been recognized for a Facebook Campaign I did for a local children's choir with a Herme's Creative Award in 2018 (see Copy Work to view a selection!).
My goal with my business has always been to create the best marketing without the use of gimmicks or sex appeal. I believe a great story is a story worth telling, and I know Iowa is full of small businesses and non-profits like that. My clients are passionate about what they provide their customers, helping me all the more share their stories.
Located in Des Moines, I've loved being able to serving both local and out-of-town clients. My specialities have been in social media content, website copy, and blog writing but as you'll see from my Copy Work and The (+) page I'm able to do much more.
So what are your marketing needs? Like my slogan says, if you're at a loss for words, I can help.
