A One-Person Marketing Agency

About Copywriter+

What started as a side hustle in 2012 turned into a full-time marketing business in 2017. Copywriter+ was honestly born as a way to keep my copywriting skills sharp while working as an office manager for a warehousing company. Soon enough, my “side hustle” became an affordable marketing solution for many small businesses, non-profits, and organizations. It started with local Des Moines contacts, stretched into the Midwest, then to the coasts, and even as far as Europe. After writing for people all over the place, I decided my heart was with the small local businesses right here in Central Iowa, specifically Des Moines.

Why?

I truly love where I live and all the great businesses that can be found right here. Marketing ideas I’ve created always fit in line with what a service business provides. And many aren't able to show their true business personality because they end up doing it themselves and only doing enough to get by, if at all.

Your business is a key part to the Des Moines community and you deserve a way to communicate with customers the best way possible.

What is a copywriter?

Copywriter [kop-ee-rahy-ter]:

Someone hired to write copy or content for marketing purposes.

Or, as I’ve been told over and over, a good one is something everyone needs.

Fun Fact: According to Merriam-Webster, the word “copywriter” was first used in 1911.

Many people confuse "copywriting" with "copyright" or "copying."

It’s not copying words from one place to another. Real copywriters are much more creative. That’s transcribing (or possibly plagiarism).

CopyRIGHT has to do with "the exclusive legal right to reproduce, publish, sell, or distribute the matter and form of something (such as a literary, musical, or artistic work)" (again, Merriam-Webster).

As I like to say, I’m Marketing not Legal.

My Goal:

To bless your small business with top-level, budget-friendly marketing through coaching, strategy, or copywriting that help your business keep growing in Des Moines.

Let me introduce myself.

Hi - I’m Kristi Kenyon, the human at Copywriter+.

My Story:

I grew up surrounded and raised by blue-collar workers in a farming community in north central Iowa.

I know that's where I've learned what hard work really looks like and what you can accomplish with that sort of grit. I lived in a small town raised in part by a county engineer. I've worked a lot of odd jobs since I was 9 (<< and no, that's not a typo), including:

Janitorial worker

Hotel staff

Food service worker

Childcare worker

Retail worker

Administrative staff

I know that small businesses are essential the the local economy of Des Moines. I want to help local businesses like yours around Des Moines go above what most people would expect from a small business owner and create real trust and excitement for the amazing services a business like yours provides. That's what fuels Copywriter+ and keeps it in Des Moines.

My Creds

  • Graduated from Drake University with a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication, Creative Advertising Track

  • Radio industry promotions for 2 years

  • In-house marketing department of one for 2 companies over the span of almost 3 years

  • Industries worked for include (but not limited to)

    • construction companies

    • specialty lawn care companies

    • car shipping companies

    • interior designers

    • specialty repair companies

  • Email Open Rate average of 32% with Click Thru Rate (CTR) average of 2.4%

  • Increase foot & website traffic by 25%

We all start our business journeys doing all the things but eventually, it gets too much to juggle. If you’re at that point and don't want to drop the ball (or two), you’re in the right place.

I'm like hiring an in-house marketer without the additional equipment costs, office footprint, or HR paperwork.

I'm like working with a large marketing agency but is a better fit for your current budget.

And I'm excited to partner with you.
